Up and at the Elbe river

The river that springs in the Czech Republic, flows into the North Sea in Germany and covers a total distance of 150,000 km, presents Magdeburg with a rich riverbank and floodplain landscape. At the same time, the Elbe is an important traffic route, Magdeburg is home to one of the 5 waterways and ship's offices, which is responsible for kilometres 290 to 502 of the Elbe.

The waterway intersection and the canal bridge

Here you can marvel at the impressive lock and ship lift constructions, while you have the nature of the floodplain forests at your back. The waterway intersection is also Europe's largest steel structure and the canal bridge with its 918 metres is also the longest in Europe.
