Parks in Magdeburg

In spite of the large industry that is located here in Magdeburg, the city also offers many green areas to discover. Beginning of course with our...

Herrenkrug Park

The park is the centre of the Magdeburg district of the same name and has existed for many decades, if not centuries. The history of hospitality goes back a long way, as a guardian's house was built here in 1676, which had permission to serve drinks. Since the tapping station was then owned by the town councillors, the district was given the name "Herren Kruge", which today was abbreviated and merged to form "Herrenkrug".

You can also discover a lot more on about 46 hectares...

  • The Lion Monument, erected and dedicated in 1918 to the Lord Mayor Francke for his services to Herrenkrug Park.
  • The Borussia Monument - as a memorial to the liberation of Magdeburg from foreign rule by the French
  • The double corpse, which as a natural monument represents the development and decay of nature and at the same time houses the rare oak buck.
  • The globular sundial, the memorial to the director of urban development Wolff
  • Count only the cheerful hours "- The sundial, which is already 100 years old here in 2018
  • The Ebeling memorial stone erected for the teacher Ebeling to commemorate his commitment to the school garden.
  • The "lazy bench"

Elbe floodplain park

The park is situated on the eastern bank of the Elbe River and is embedded in the meadow landscape. Since 1999, the park has been open to the public. Previously, the grounds were used for military purposes, also known as the Cracauer Anger, but were converted into the 25th Federal Garden Show.
Today, the 93-hectare park is one of Magdeburg's most popular sightseeing attractions and promises its visitors numerous discoveries and opportunities for recreation.
